The Canadian Geotechnical Society, the Association of Engineering Geologists and the Joint Technical Committee on Landslides (JTC-1) invite you to the 11th International Symposium on Landslides (ISL) and the 2nd North American Symposium on Landslides (NASL) at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta, Canada from June 3 to 8, 2012. The theme of the symposium will be Landslides and Engineered Slopes: Protecting Society through Improved Understanding. 

The Technical Committee invites participants from industry, government and academia to submit abstracts pertaining to the investigation, classification, monitoring, analysis and mitigation of landslides. Case studies together with papers featuring innovative analysis techniques and solutions, as well as research (recent and/ or future trends), are strongly encouraged. Abstracts of up to 300 words are due by April 15, 2011. All abstracts and papers must be submitted electronically using the easy-to use Online Abstract Submission feature. Invitations for the submission of full papers will be sent by June 1 to corresponding authors whose abstracts are accepted by the conference’s Technical Committee. Full technical papers will be due by October 1, 2011. Guidelines for the preparation and submission of technical papers will be posted in early June, 2011 or before. 

With an expected attendance of between 400 and 500 delegates, an important component of ISL/NASL 2012 will be the trade show and the participation of our sponsors from across Canada, North America and around the world. The ISL/NASL 2012 trade show will run from Sunday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon and, as all breaks and lunches on Monday and Tuesday will be held in the trade exhibition hall, will be an excellent way to connect with delegates. Up to 30 booths can be accomodated at the symposium, that space may sell out by the end of 2011 so act soon to reserve your space. The yearly Ingeokring excursion will this year take place in Maastricht on Friday 29 June 2012. The excavation of the building pits of the A2 tunnel will be highlighted during this excursion.
